About Us 

Launched in 2017, Charleston Literary Festival is a 10-day boutique literary festival that takes place each November in Charleston, South Carolina. With an emphasis on featuring international and national award-winning authors, the festival is committed to providing diverse audiences with a forum for engaging with new ideas and experiencing the transformative power of literature. Charleston Literary Festival is an independent non-profit organization.

  • Why We Need You

    This year’s festival takes place from Nov.1-10th in downtown Charleston. We need a part-time marketing manager dedicated to help us to coordinate and deliver excellent effective marketing campaigns for our key channels in the run-up to the Festival. This marketing manager will play a key role in helping us to raise awareness for the festival and drive ticket sales. They will also help us to innovate new ways to expand our audience and attract people to the Festival. This is a great opportunity for someone with a passion for books to take a small organization to the next level.

    Job Description

    Project manage marketing projects and marketing campaigns (working as key contact with media sellers where necessary) 

    Work in a team to brainstorm effective creative ideas for key marketing channels based on Festival goals 

    Oversee marketing copywriting and editing for marketing materials where necessary

    Assist marketing team on distribution of marketing materials around Charleston (libraries, retailers, partners) 

    Work with team to develop press releases for distribution when necessary

    Assist on the development and distribution of Festival merchandise 

    Work with social media team to help create and organize assets for different channels and partners 

    Represent the Festival at events and key marketing meetings when necessary

    Deliver regular updates and reports on key marketing goals and KPIs 

    Skills + Qualifications

    Strong interest in books, and authors (both national and international)

    Well-organized, pragmatic, proactive personality with a growth mindset

    Ability to adapt quickly and thrive in a fast-paced environment

    Experience with media buying and/or PR 

    Knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and basic ability to create content for social media 

    Data-driven and outcome-focused

In the run up to the festival, we need a Development & Operations intern dedicated to development and operations to help plan and run a great 10-day festival. This is an incredible opportunity for people with both a creative and analytical side to learn and thrive.

    Pay

    $20 per hour

    Duration of Internship

    10 hours a week (May - August) with hours increasing in lead-up to November festival

    Job Description

    Event planning: Assist event staff in organizing information in the lead-up to the festival. Tasks may include creation or maintenance of complex spreadsheets, data entry, flyer distribution, and otherwise

    Party planning: Assist event staff in managing guest lists and head counts, supply pick-ups, as well as manual party set-up and management day-of

    Event management: Assist in day-to-day running of the festival: coordinating volunteers, working front of house, managing guest lists/invite lists, acting as hands-on assistant to festival staff, working with event photographer to realize shot lists at events

    Donor liaison: Liaise with donors and corporate sponsors to share information on the Festival and deliver special offers

    Hands-on guidance: Provide “concierge service” for weekend guests, including booking dinner reservations and welcoming guests

    Student engagement: Support student initiatives (field trips, Fellowship, student outreach)

    Festival ambassador: Assist marketing team on distribution of marketing materials around Charleston (libraries, retailers, partners)

    Skills + Qualifications

    Strong interest in books, and authors (both national and international)

    Pragmatic, proactive personality with a growth mindset

    Ability to adapt quickly and thrive in a fast-paced environment

    Access to a car and the ability to drive (note: nice-to-have, not necessary)

    Stellar organizational skills

    Ability to do light lifting: e.g. moving chairs, tables, etc.
